Biography
Fong Kai De is a classical pianist who has been performing since the age of 9. Locally, he has performed at venues like the Esplanade Recital Studio, Victoria Concert Hall, and at the Singapore Airlines Theatre at LASALLE College of the Arts. On a global stage, he has won various prizes in international piano competitions and festivals; in Korea, Japan, and the USA.
Kai De was also one of the top scorers in 2014 when he took the Licentiate of the Royal School of Music (LRSM) exam. Kai De also has a Distinction in Grade 8 Theory. He is currently studying for a Degree in Music Performance at the School of Contemporary Music at LASALLE College of the Arts under the tutelage of Prof Benjamin Loh.
Kai De is a regular performer in his school’s annual Classical piano concert, Piano Voyage, and has performed in each one while schooling since 2017. Kai De held his first solo recital at the age of 11 at one of Singapore’s most prestigious spaces, the Recital Studio, Esplanade. He was awarded the Silver Prize at the 7th All Japan Junior Piano Concour Piano Audition Competition in 2016, and won first prize with the first movement of Mozart’s Piano Concerto No. 21 with a concert orchestra at the Costa Rica Piano Festival in 2017. In 2018, Kai De was the only Singaporean who was selected to take part in the prestigious Ettlingen Piano Competition.
Since completing his National Service in 2022, Kai De has been building up a studio of students to gear them towards musical excellence and encouraging their passion for classical music. Kai De also has more than 5 years of accompaniment experience, working with violinists and choirs.
Kai De believes that Classical Music is a language that is meant to be shared and enjoyed by many, and aims to elevate the understanding and performance of his students.
